Francesco was born about 1779 in Pratola Peligna, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Venanzo Petrella but his mother is unknown.
His wife was Maria Rosaria DiBacco, who he married in ABT 1810. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Anna Giuseppe (1812-?), Venanzo Vincenzo (1815-?), Domenico Antonio (1818-?), Maria Vincenza (1824-?) and Berardina (1829-?).
