Domenico was born about 1779 in Pratola Peligna, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Giuseppe Santangelo but his mother is unknown.

His wife was Maria Felicia Santilli. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Vincenzo (1811-1812), Raffaele (1813-1814), Maria Maddalena (1815-?) and Carmine Antonio (1818-?).
