Paolo was born about 1785 in Pratola Peligna, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of Luigi Petrella but his mother is unknown.
His wife was Vincenza DiGiallorenzo. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their three known children were Giuseppe (1811-?), Maria Carmina (1813-?) and Angelo Antonio Nicola (1815-?).
