Donato was born about 1773 in Vallecupa, the son of Berardino Chiodi and Lucia Pietropaolo.
His wife was Marianna Lucci. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their eight known children were Carmina (c1806-1814), Chiara (c1806-?), Giovanna Antonia (1809-?), Giovanna Antonia Rosa (1809-1894), Margarita (1811-1814), Domenica Antonia (1814-1842), Angelo (1817-1818) and Maria (1819-?).
