Croce was born on 3 MAY 1791 in Palena, Chieti, Italy, the son of Giovanni Campana and Maddalena DeMatteis.

His wife was Barbara DelFini, who he married in ABT 1812. The place has not been found. Their three known children were Giovanni Domenico (1816-?), Francesco Paolo (1819-?) and Anna Maria (1824-?).
