Raffaele was born about 1779 in Pratola Peligna, L'Aquila, Italy, the son of unknown parents.

His wife was Giovanna diBenedetto, who he married in ABT 1799. The place has not been found. Their seven known children were Donato (c1800-1816), Francesco (c1805-?), Vincenzo (c1808-1812), Vincenzo (1813-?), Rosa Maria (1815-?), Maria Donata (1819-1825) and Giuseppe (1822-?).
